Youth Coding League

El Raton Media Works offers 5th and 6th grade Raton Intermediate School students Youth Coding League, a free after school coding program. This program is made possible by grants from The Encantado Foundation (2025) and Taos HIVE (2024).

Youth Coding League is designed to make learning to code fun and engaging through a competitive and collaborative environment.

    Regular Season

    Students meet once a week for 1.5 hours after school for nine weeks. They will complete eight Sprints in Scratch, learning the necessary skills needed to create their own project.

    Post Season

    Students team up in groups of 2-3 and build a project using a broad prompt over the course of a few weeks in a competitive postseason playoff series.

    Awards

    The best overall YCL projects will win prizes, like laptops, drones, movie projectors, and more. The most Improved Coder in the Raton group will be awarded $25.

Students receive a free set of earbuds and a T-Shirt for participating in the YCL program!

Raton Intermediate School students are encouraged to sign up for Spring 2025’s Program. Teachers will hand out sign up sheets during class.

The after school program will run Tuesdays from January 28th until April 1st, 2025. Final awards will be announced April 25th.

Space is limited to 15 students.
