Alan Birkelbach is a member of the Texas Institute of Letters, Western Writers of America, National Park Foundation, and The Academy of American Poets.

Karla has sixteen poetry collections, and was named 2010 Texas Poet Laureate, is a songwriter, a Mother Jones impersonator, and is a nominee for the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame.
